FAQ
How does a basement suite compare with main-floor living for aging in place?
Compare the complete route between parking, the entrance, kitchen, sleeping space and a full bathroom. A basement suite may still depend on stairs or equipment, and the proposed sleeping use needs review of emergency escape, services, moisture, flood information and applicable approvals. Available floor area alone does not establish suitability.
Main-floor room reuse or an addition may make stairs optional where the arrangement and property allow. A basement room proposed for a caregiver or other family member still needs the same use and existing-condition review; its label does not make it suitable. NK considers the household's priorities and feasible alternatives without declaring one floor automatically best for every home.
