FAQ

How can I check an aging-in-place contractor in Pennsylvania?

Check the contractor's Pennsylvania Home Improvement Contractor registration, insurance documentation, individual CAPS designation where claimed, relevant experience and references. Ask who will assess structure, prepare required drawings, undertake regulated trades and coordinate permits and inspections. Registration, individual training and engineering authority are different things.

Before signing, review the written scope, specifications, exclusions, payment schedule, change process, access arrangements and homeowner protections. Discuss permit responsibility and obtain the appropriate approvals before work that requires them. The protected contractor-hiring guide explains the six source checks and current Pennsylvania contract and deposit protections; a registration number alone does not establish project suitability.
